Fruit picking in Brentwood
May 31st
Today my friend Marc and I participated in Brentwood’s sole tourist attraction — fruit picking! We went to one of the few farms that still had cherries (it was an early season), and went to work. Click below for a couple of pictures.
In other fruit-related news, Marc talked me into buying more plants for my garden… this time two “older” grape plants which will bear fruit this year. In fact there are already grapes on them. We got muscat and flame. We planted them and put some trellises down as well.
Oh, did I mention that it was 93 degrees today? Bah.

You know it’s going to be a hot day when it’s already 82 degrees at 930am. Thank God for A/C!
Not a recommendation?

Today was “ask Jeff for a camera recommendation” day. Keeping with my stated policy, I didn’t answer any of them.
This one particular message took the cake:
Subject: Not a Recommendation Request Per Se
Just a question.
I appreciate that they’re very different cameras, but if you could buy prosumer Nikon 5700 at 365 new as compared with Canon S50 at higher price point (plus 50) or Canon S410 at lower price point (minus 50).
Which was followed up by:
Or one more under consideration: Canon PowerShot S1 IS at similar price point.
How is that not a recommendation request?

The big news around town this week is that the new Safeway store is opening on Friday. It’s the anchor of a new shopping center just down the street. It’s amazing to see how Brentwood has changed since I first put a deposit down on my house a year ago.
Anyhow, Safeway is really trying to get the word out about the new store. In the last week I’ve received a club card (already got one), numerous coupons, a pamplet describing the store, and a virtual tour CD-ROM. As it turns out the CD-ROM doubles as a $10 off coupon. Combining that with the other coupons they sent and I can eat on the cheap for weeks. They have free breakfast week, lunch week, snack week, and dinner week. I’m looking forward to the free cake myself…
Lesson learned, 6 months later
