In a fog

Man, what’s with the weather around here lately? It’s been thick ground fog for over a week. If you’re lucky it gets to 45 degrees during the day, and at night it drops into the 30s. Hard to believe that 4 months ago it was 95 degrees every day.

That’s a lot of swimming

I was playing DDR Extreme today when I found the workout diary page. I don’t know when it started counting (maybe on the original DDR game I bought?) but that’s a lot of “dancing”. Even more impressive are the equivalents for other sports. What’s funny is that it probably took me a month to reach the 135 miles of jogging when I was on the cross country team in high school. I do wish I could still run like I could 10 years ago, but I think those days are over.
I must say, though, DDR is a fun way to get in shape and drop some pounds. Between that and cutting out sugary drinks, I figure I’ve lost 15 pounds or so since this time last year, and I haven’t set foot in a gym. As cheesy as the game is, it sure beats riding a stationary bike!

Questionable public art

I’ve seen this piece (hidden in a redwood grove at Stanford) many times, and have always wanted to take a picture of it. Well, on today’s trip, I finally did. For some reason this thing looks like a giant sex toy… or maybe I just have a sick mind.

Petco

I went into the new Petco in town the other day to pick up some gifts for Jackson. I don’t think I’ve ever been inside one of their stores, and I was a bit shocked at what I saw. Big cages of birds. Lizards. Snakes. Rats (hey, only $2 for the cute little white ones). Turtles.
Something about this bothered me. I just don’t like the idea of mass-merchandising specialty animals like that. Who knows how they’re raised — it’s obviously in mass quantities. It was like being in Target or something like that, except you could buy a gecko lizard for $7 instead of laundry detergent.
Of course, I didn’t really protest this, as I bought a giant tennis ball, santa-style dog collar (with bells), and some tree-shaped dog cookies and went on my way.

MT upgrade

We’re now running version 3.1 of MovableType. I know things are screwed up because of all the trouble I had trying to upgrade, so e-mail me if you see anything funny.
By the way, you may need to do a shift-reload in your browser for everything to look nice.
