Europe Trip Day 3: Sailing away
Posted on July 10th, 2006 6 comments
Well, day one of the cruise is coming to an end. We took a very long bus ride
from Rome to the port in Civitavecchia, and soon we were on the MS Noordam.
It’s quite a ship… nothing like the last cruise ship I was on 17 years ago.
We did a lot of exploring today, and there are still many places to discover.
I also did a lot of eating, despite not completely ridding myself of that stomach
bug. You can pretty much eat constantly here… which is a blessing and a curse.Oh, and did I mention that I won $100 on the slot machine on my second pull?
Yeehaw!Pics of the ship after the link. Tomorrow is a sea day so I’m sure I’ll be
taking more. I don’t have a shot of the ship itself yet, so that’ll have to
wait until we’re docked.
Crummy panorama of our suite. Apparently this room is considered "big"… well,
not by my standards!
Our veranda
View from our deck
The Internet Cafe is impressive. They even have an Espresso bar!
Looking down the atrium…
… and looking back up

wow! that room is definitely big compared to the cruise ship I was on about 7 years ago. Mine was for two people and just a smidge wider than a double bed. You definitely didn’t want to spend much time in there!

Sorry to hear about the bug, it’ll pass (ummm, bad pun alert).
Sweet vacation. Thanks for the updates. ENJOY!
(the fact that I’m looking at this at 10AM tells me that I’m fried and need some of the same – if my wife get’s ahold of your pictures I think we’ll be forced to follow suit in some form or another). -

Jeff,
Hope you are enjoying your break. What camera are you using? -
One of my favorite things to do on the Internet is to read about other people’s cruise experiences. I’ve read a LOT of cruise reviews and stories from fellow cruisers. Jeff, I just have to say that the quality of your cruise photos stands head and shoulders above what I’m used to seeing! Nice job.

I just sailed on a “dam” ship (Holland America ships all end in “dam”) and you do indeed have a big cabin- with a porch. I was down a few floors under you, one above the water, with a porthole. The crew slept below the water level. So those old cabins still exist, except they’re taken by the 600-800 crew on each ship.
