Alaska 2008: Day 7 (College Fjord)
Posted on June 16th, 2008 3 comments
The last full day of our cruise was spent in College Fjord. This fjord was
as smooth as glass, and filled with seals, otters, whales, porpoises, and birds
of all types. There were quite a few glaciers to see, too, though there was
no dramatic calving like in Glacier Bay.Photos from Day 7 of my Alaska trip after the link below.

Looking out from the back of the ship as we enter College Fjord
Not sure what kind of bird this is, but they appear to walk on water
We saw a TON of sea otters here
There are four otters here… sometimes you’d see a half dozen or more at once!
I assume that’s an otter on the iceberg on the right
Pretty spectacular scenery
Apparently these trees died as a result of the 1964 earthquake
Seals hanging out on some ice
There are at least five glaciers in this photo
A river of ice…
Nice waterfall
Another glacier
The bow of the ship was a popular place to be today
Lots of ice in the water here
Nice reflection
One more glacier for good measureIn the next gallery, I’ll have pictures of our trip from Seward to Denali.

Many thanks for this series. It brings back some great memories from our cruise on the Sapphire Princess in the middle of July 2007. We were blessed with bright sunshine for most of the trip (excluding the very Misty Fjords !) Some people even preferred to be in the pool rather than see the glaciers but it’s interesting to see the same views but under more dramatic conditions. For anyone thinking of taking a cruise I certainly recommend going on one that takes in College Fjord and if you’re coming from Europe, as we were, a trip on the Rocky Mountaineer is not to be missed.

Nice pictures. We were there the last week of May 2008 with very bright sun light. Looking forward to seeing it again. We book the Island Princess for the 2nd and third week in June of this year. Get to see it twice. I love the quite cruising you get in Alaska.
