  • Foot puzzle, part 2

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about the strange problem I’ve been having with my foot. Today I went to the dermatologist, hoping for some answers. I didn’t get any — at least not yet.  Much to my surprise, he wanted to take a biopsy of the area of my foot and ankle that’s discolored under the skin. That procedure took less than 5 minutes, and I didn’t feel a thing (thanks, novocaine!).

Unfortunately, now I have to wait a week for results, and even then, who knows if it’ll provide any leads. Everyone’s still holding off on blood work and and an MRI, which seems ridiculous to me… but we’ll see what happens next week, I guess.

    • Jeff, I was hoping somebody with more knowledge would respond, but I think you should be concerned. Your symptoms are very similar to what my nephew has experienced, and he is a diabetic. He lost all feeling in his foot, and actually had an injury that he did not feel. He had to wear a boot for almost a year, and still has very little feeling in that foot. At one time he thought he may lose it, but fortunately it has improved. I would make sure that diabetes has been ruled out as the cause.

    • Well, I had a blood sugar test a month or two before this started and it was fine. I’ve been told that it’s highly unlikely that I’d get diabetes that progressed to foot problems that quickly. I’ll know more in a few days, I hope.
