Tuesday musings

1) Today I paid $60 to gas up my car. That's no joke. $2.95 x 20 gallons. I was low on fuel so I wasn't going to shop around. At Costco tonight it was $2.64. I think it may be time for a Prius.

2) I bought an awesome new orchid tonight at Costco. I love that place. And have I mentioned how good their rotisserie chickens are?

3) The other day I redeemed 96,000 American Express Membership Rewards points so my sister and her husband could go to a wedding in DC in August for free. Yes, this is me being "too nice" again (I wonder if I should buy this book?). I didn't do it to get anything in return -- they're both starving students. Rather, I did it because a) I could and b) it was the "right thing to do".

4) I'm finding that I'm expecting too much from others lately. And when I don't get what I'm expecting, I get disappointed and frustrated. I'm not sure where this comes from exactly. Maybe from the relative isolation I've been living in for the last 18 months (less than six to go!). Or maybe I'm just a little selfish.

wow!
Do you know what you could have gotten for 96,000 amex points?
Okay, I won't tell you. Too depressing. :)

Dont feel bad about the gas :)...If i would have bought 1 gallon with 2.95 it would have been one heck of a deal. In Romania where i live, 1 gallon = $4.32 and the average salary is about $400-$500

Hey, I feel your pain on the gas. I drive a Honda Odyssey and it cost me $33 for 13.8 gallons at $2.39 (I fill up at or about 1/4 tank). I'm just thankful that I don't have the Yukon XL Denali that I want; that thing has a 45-gallon tank!!!

About the AmEx points; it was for family. Family is a little different than for friends--they can haunt you for life. As for everyone else, unfortunately, most often people will disappoint. Expect people to disappoint, but don't lower your expectations on how you want to be treated. If they are really your friends, they will step up to what you want for yourself.

I never see much change from $90 to fill my car up. Here in the UK its $6.22 a (US) gallon.

You know Damon, your second paragraph is sad, but true. I hate lowering expectations of other people... it doesn't seem right. Maybe it's the only way to stop the frustration though? In general though, I'd say that most people suck and spend too much time thinking about themselves.

I love the responses from people in other countries. It's a bit crazy that our gas is as cheap as it is since 75% of it is imported, isn't it?

I felt pretty happy today when I was able to pay $1.99 a gallon. Yes I said $1.99.
Heck my wife's boss was pretty happy when I called to tell him that a local station has premium at $2.17 a gal (or you wanted you could buy regular or the mid grade for $2.17 too)

I recently got rid of a car that required Premium.

However, I bought one that had twice the tank size and about half the mileage... :/

I totally want to go green!

Bummer. The worst I've done is right before I bought my Hyundai. $1.97/Gal 34 Gal. It came out to just under 75.00. That was in March of 2000. I'd hate to have to fill that monster up now. I'm (on average) paying 40 bucks for a 14.5 Gal tank. Gas is fluxing somewhere between 2.35 and 2.40 a Gal in TX. Me? I'm still waiting for the Hydrogen fueled cars.
