Yellowstone Trip 2006
(Click for larger)
After a quick dinner we headed back into Yellowstone (which isn’t hard, as the entrance is literally around the block) for some dusk wildlife viewing. While we didn’t see any new animals (plenty of bison and elk though), I did get the nice sunset shot you see above. It was a fitting end to a pretty nice trip.
Today we put a ton of miles on our fabulous rental SUV. We drove south from
West Yellowstone through Idaho (right through potato country), over the very
crazy Teton Pass, and into Jackson Hole. Man, I’d love to live there… time
to start shopping for a vacation home. Anyhow, we then drove up to Grand Teton,
which has some really rugged mountains and several large lakes. Like at Yellowstone,
most of the services were still closed for the winter. That didn’t take away
from the scenery, though… pictures after the link.
Today we drove all over the other (accessible) parts of Yellowstone. We went
to Mammoth Hot Springs, Canyon, and Yellowstone Lake. The weather was all over
the place… from sun to rain to hail to snow, and then back again. Tomorrow
we’re off to Grand Teton!
More pics below…
What a place! We drove in through the west entrance this morning and headed
toward Old Faithful. We stopped MANY times along the way… sometimes for landscapes,
other times for animals. So far we’ve seen lots of elk and bison, but no bears.
We still have to go to the north and eastern sides of the park, but that’s
for another day.
