Worked out very well. My review pretty much covers my thoughts, though I found that the camera does clip highlights more than I had noticed when I reviewed it. Also, the lens release button is poorly placed and too easily to bump accidentally, which can throw you out of menus or playback mode, or cause a lens error.

I'll see what I can do about those full size photos.

That's good that you didn't have to worry. Only 10 upgraded passengers in business on Tuesday from what I've been told!

I am leaving for Singapore tomorrow and have to go via Seattle-Tokyo, since my usual options of going via SFO-Tokyo or SFO-Hong Kong are full up front.

I applied for the upgrade (using miles) back when I booked the ticket. I knew it was going to clear right away so I didn't have to worry.

Nice job on getting an upgrade confirmed HKG-SFO. This route is notoriously tough to get an upgrade. In all my years of flying to Asia on United, I've only done the HKG-SFO non-stop once and I had to sweat it out at the gate hoping my upgrade would clear, which it did.

notice that only temples will receive the "three wings" (highest-ranked) roof design, as they represent the heaven.

imperial buildings like the Forbidden City get two wings.

common buildings like a poor man's house get only a wing.

"I guess this was the Emperor"

There are over 20 Emperors in the era of Ming. The black-coated statue you saw was the First Emperor of Ming.

The beauty about the tomb is that you have to be a Chinese to appreciate it. Why? Because every single thing in the tomb can mean something else. For eg, notice the concrete surface you walked on it before reaching the main tomb; those unique designs underneath your feet are meant to describe the culture about the Ming China. It is to say that you have to spend the whole day, carefully examine every single piece of artwork on the floor, the wall, the roof, etc, to truly appreciate the Chinese culture. :)

Hello Jeff,

I'm a frequent reader of dcresource.com from Germany and I'm also on vacation in Hong Kong at the moment. Maybe I can see the MS Volendam at the harbour (my hotel room at HK Island has harbour view to Tsim Sha Tsui pier). So I wish you a pleasant stay, good pictures in Hong Kong and a safe trip home. Can't wait for more camera tests to show up. :-)

The typhoon you mentioned is not expected to reach Hong Kong, so be prepared for 30 degrees celsius and sunny weather as it was today.

Best regards,

Markus
