After hitting every red light on the way, I arrived almost 20 minutes late for my appointment in Brentwood. Luckily the sales agent had plenty of other stuff to keep her occupied.
Today was mostly spent filling out forms and talking about all the confusing things that will be happening in the next 6 months. The next two steps for me are to get loan approval (from KB Home Mortgage as well as the loan broker I'd been working with) as well as picking my upgrades. I was shocked to find out that I must select options for my house -- which will not be done until late October -- in the next eight days. That means I need to go back out there, look at the model, then go to the Design Center in Pleasanton. It looks like I'll spend around $20,000 for upgrades... more or less. That's a lot, but the house was cheaper than I had anticipated. So we shall see.
After all the talking, the agent took me through one of the models, carefully pointing out the standard features. After that, I grabbed a hard hat and went down to lot 1, which is the same house as mine (except the owner upgraded everything). I just wanted to get a feel for the space and where things could go. Of course there aren't any walls yet, but it was still worth the trip.
The weather was initially very clear, giving me a nice view of Mt. Diablo and the surrounding foothills from my future front yard. Of course, once there are houses across the street, I may not have such a great view anymore.

This is the two story version of my house. Mine will be the same style.

Tile in the family room and kitchen. I really like it and may
get this myself if the price isn't restrictive.

This is the bathroom tile. I like it too.

This is inside the house
on lot #1. This would be the view from the couch, looking at the TV. The fireplace
would be on the left. I think I can make this work.

The plot map. You can see how far apart the houses are (12.4 feet), how set
back the house is (16.7 feet), and how large my backyard is (27.3 x 50.4 ft)
