Jeff's Trip to the 2003 SF Int'l Auto Show

Every Thanksgiving, my dad and I go to the big auto show in SF. This year it was a good idea, as we're looking for a new car for my sister. In addition to being practical, we got to do a little dreaming too.

Now you can retrace my steps around the show floor thanks to the Pentax *ist D I brought along with me. Photos have been downsized and retouched.

I forgot the model, but it's a Ferrari, it's fast, and it's very expensive.

I have my eye on this new Acura TL for when my TT's lease expires next fall. It's got 270hp and all kinds of goodies ranging from a nav system to Bluetooth.

Ahh, yes, the new S4. I can dream, can't I? I'd love to have it, but it gets crappy mileage and it costs a fortune.

The S4's engine.

Speaking of expensive, here's the RS6. Take the S4's engine and add two turbos. 450 hp. $88k.

I love the new A8L. Way out of my range -- and it's too darn big anyway.

Another contender for a TT replacement, though I may wait for the new A6 instead.

Over at the Mercedes booth, the E55 AMG was trying to break free of its chains. As my dad said, "I hope those are plastic".

The Chrysler booth featured the wacky PT Cruiser convertible...

... and a serious Bentley ripoff.

The new Toyota Solara looks cool.

And how about the WRX STi? 300 horsepower for $30k! Too bad the looks (inside and out) are so uninspiring.

Here's what's under the hood.

The new BMW X3... their mini SUV.

This one's a little blurry.

Inside. This was a nice car/truck/whatever.

The 350Z convertible. A few styling upgrades and I might be interested.
