Shasta
/ Lassen Trip
July 16 - 17, 2004
My dad and I went up to far northern California for a quick 48 hour trip. We went to Trinity Alps (eh), Redding, Shasta Lake, Mt. Shasta, and Lassen Volcanic National Park. Here are the highlights:
Sundial Bridge - Redding, CA

This has to be one of the coolest bridges I've seen

The walkway is glass

This tower and its cables support the whole bridge

Not only that, but it's also a sundial. Really! They only have markers
for the mid-afternoon so when we arrived it was too late to see what
time it was.

Even with my 15mm lens I still couldn't fit the bridge into the frame. And
before somebody says something, yes, I know I took this into the sun,
but you cannot get a decent shot of it from the other side.

The main support is right underneath the cables (which are off-center,
as you can see)

At the bottom of the tower
Shasta Dam / Lake Shasta

The enormous Shasta Dam with Mt. Shasta in the background

This thing is big. The security here is really ridiculous. You get questioned
by security when you enter the top of the dam. If you want to take
the tour you must put any cameras, cell phones, etc etc back in
your car.

It's a LONG way down
