V2: Vertical Velocity Media Day
June 8, 2001

As a member of American Coaster Enthusiasts, I was invited to the media day event for V2: Vertical Velocity at Six Flags Marine World in Vallejo, CA.

After some initial troubles with V2, they got the ride running in the afternoon, and what a treat! I must've gone 7 times, while my friend Ashley probably went 11 times.

The highlight of the day was our final ride in the front seat -- watching the end of the twisted track approaching is intense!

All in all, a great day at SFMW -- thanks to both ACE and SFMW for their hospitality!

Check out these two movies (all photos + video taken with Sony DSC-S85 4.1 Megapixel camera):

Most of the ride (2.8MB, MPEG format)
"Hang time" on the vertical spike (3.2MB, QuickTime format)
If you have trouble with the second movie, first try saving it to your hard disk and playing it. If that doesn't work, try the AVI version (1.7MB, no sound)

And up they go! In the front row this part is insane! Back outside the park, looking up the twisted spike.

A train speeds through the station at nearly 70mph. This is right as the train launches (notice the riders' expressions).
